February / March Author-Illustrator Visits

Dear P.S. 32 Students & Parents,

We are excited to bring these author/illustrators to speak to our Students this month and next. These visits takes place during school hours and is for students only.

5th Grade Illustrator Virtual Visit
Red Nose Studio (Chris Sickles)

About the Author – Illustrator

Chris Sickles creates 3D illustration and stop-motion animation with what is at arms reach in his studio. He has authored and illustrated The Look Book, and illustrated the children’s books Here Comes The Garbage Barge, The Beginner’s Guide to Running Away From Home, and The Secret Subway, and the just-released Elvis Is King.

His illustrations and animations have been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, and HOW. The Society of Illustrators has awarded three golds and a silver medal for both illustrative and motion work. Chris’ stop-motion animated films have screened at various festivals including Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and Montreal Stop-Motion Film Festival. Red Nose Studio is based in Greenfield, Indiana.

Kindergarten Author-Illustrator Visit
Suzanne Kaufman

About the Author-Illustrator

Suzanne Kaufman is an author, illustrator, animator and lover of school potlucks. Over the years, Suzanne has done everything from animating special effects for Universal and Discovery, to animating award-winning video games. She has lectured and taught illustration and animation around the world. When not tramping through the wilds of the Pacific Northwest, you will find her teaching animation or working in her studio. She lives in Seattle with her husband and two creative daughters.

The New York Times bestseller, All Are Welcome, was inspired by Suzanne’s daughters’ diverse elementary school. The book “follows a group of children through a day in their school, where everyone is welcomed with open arms. A school where kids in patkas, hijabs, and yamulkes play side-by-side with friends in baseball caps. A school where students grow and learn from each other’s traditions and the whole community gathers to celebrate.”

Suzanne will read aloud from All Are Welcome, and talk about the inspiration behind the book and the process of makinCategoriesg a picture book from start to finish.

Jacqueline Woodson

About the Author

Jacqueline Woodson is the author of over thirty books for children, young adults and adults. She is best known for Miracle’s Boys, which won the Coretta Scott King Award in 2001, and her National Book Award- and Newbery Honor-winning titles Brown Girl Dreaming, After Tupac & D Foster, and Feathers, as well as the picture books Each Kindness and Show Way.

For her lifetime contribution as a children’s writer, Jacqueline won the Margaret Edwards Award in 2005. In 2015, she was named the Young People’s Poet Laureate. She lives in Brooklyn with her family, two dogs and a cat.

Jacqueline will talk about her body of work and her journey to becoming a writer.


  • Consider checking out their books from the school or public library.
  • Talk up the visit before the actual date. The more excited the kids are about it, the more they’ll get out of it.
