Dear MS 442 families:
It is with great pleasure to announce that after many months of negotiation, we have received word from the DOE’s Office of Space Planning that MS 442 will be relocated to the Bishop Ford building for the 2017 – 2018 school year.
Bishop Ford is located at 500 19th Street and houses BUGS Charter Middle School as well as the PS 10 PreK program known as K280.
From the initial information received, we are being offered space that is equitable to what we currently have – similar amount of classrooms, use of the gym, cafeteria and auditorium – all in a safe environment.
While the relocation may present logistical challenges for some of our families, MS 442 is going to work together with those families to make sure all of our students are able to get to the new location next year.
The SLT will meet with the Office of Space Planning (hopefully) next week to have formal presentation of the relocation plan. The SLT will then walk the space being offered at Bishop Ford. The DOE will post the proposed re-location plan for public review sometime this fall and then the Panel for Educational Policy will vote on this at their December meeting. Once the vote passes (which all DOE officials have told us they anticipate will be an easy yes) the relocation will be official.
At this point, this is all the information we have. We will update you after the SLT Meeting with Space Planning to let you know more details.
We are looking at this as good news for the MS 442 community!
Thanks for your support through this process.
