ptaofps32Every parent of a P.S. 32 student is a member of the PTA of P.S. 32. Within the larger PTA body, there are several committees that offer targeted assistance and resources to our students, administration, teachers, and staff. If you are interested in joining one of these committees, please contact the chairperson at the email address listed below. We would love to have your help! The more parents we have participating, the more robust and effective our work will be.

The After School Committee researches, organizes, and provides affordable after school enrichment programs for P.S. 32 students. These classes offer a fun, outside-the-classroom environment in which children are exposed to music, art, theater, science, dance, chess, and foreign language, with the possibility of other topics being offered in the future. The committee offers several student scholarships for each session of classes.

Community Events and Outreach Committee

The Committee for Community Events and Outreach (CCEO) organizes community day events that caters to building our unity at P.S. 32. Committee members also organize warm clothing and foods drives for families in need and provide ongoing support to all our families on a as needed basis.
We’re looking to do a variety of exciting whole family events such as Dances, International food festivals, Movie nights and much more. We need your support and ideas to help this happen.
Our P.S.32 families will be an example to our neighborhood community at large, encouraging parents (at whatever stage they are in) to support the efforts of their children’s educational experience. What child doesn’t love seeing their parent involved at school? Let’s make this year and every year special for our little people.

Communication Committee

The Communication Committee is committed to relaying information about school activities in a timely and effective way to all the members of our school community, as well as helping other PTA committees with writing and editing needs. In its first year, the committee helped to formalize a system for class parents and introduce a weekly reminder call that summarizes school activities for the following week. They also helped the administration revise and distribute the school’s Parent Handbook, and introduced the weekly e-newsletter to keep everyone informed about the extraordinary amount of important work being done and great events coming up at P.S. 32. Other Communication Committee projects included editing grant proposals and working with the PTA leadership to produce forms for families to fill out when registering. The philosophy of the Communication Committee is to set up effective, robust, and sustainable communication; the more members we have, the better.

The Fundraising Committee is comprised of parents and members of the school’s administration who work together to raise money for the children of P.S. 32. Money is raised through school-wide events such as the Spring Auction, book fairs, and candy sales, as well as an annual membership drive. Members meet monthly to track progress and brainstorm about new and creative fundraising opportunities. All of the money raised benefits our students, providing funds for classroom supplies, enrichment programs such as Rioult Dance and the N.Y. Historical Society program, art and science supplies, and community events such as the Garden Party and Family Fun nights.

Garden Committee

ps_32_garden-00The Garden Committee seeks to offer every member of the P.S. 32 community multiple opportunities to participate in the process of urban gardening. The committee supports the administration’s commitment to incorporating the school’s garden into mandated curriculum by recruiting volunteers, assisting with garden projects, providing resources for teachers, writing grants, raising funds, and procuring tools and supplies. In the past few years, our children have planted flowers and vegetables, built and maintained garden beds, learned about composting, and developed an appreciation of the importance of caring for our environment.

The Grant Committee researches and writes grants for many aspects of P.S. 32’s programming and activities, with the goal of raising funds from governmental and private philanthropic sources. As well as seeking general support, the committee is focusing its efforts on the school’s music, art, and library programs. The committee seeks volunteers who can assist with researching and writing grant proposals.

The Library Advisory Committee (LAC) is responsible for helping to make decisions about our library programming, fundraising, planning events and outreach, set policies, and create the mission and vision for the P.S 32 library.

Spring Auction Committee

PS32Auction2016_0153The Spring Fling and Auction is one of P.S. 32’s largest fundraising events of the year and a fun-filled, grown-ups-only party for the entire P.S. 32 community. Planning takes approximately six months. Members of the Spring Auction Committee establish a volunteer base, manage workflow, and develop systems and timelines for the many components of the event: donations, advertising, an auction catalog, auction forms, food and beverages, procurement and management of the event space, and collection of payment for ad sales and auction prizes. All proceeds from the auction go directly to the PTA of P.S. 32 to provide resources and enrichment activities for our children.

Whether it’s with computers, information systems, or the Internet, many of our children’s parents have vast experience in various areas of modern technology. The P.S. 32 Technology Committee was formed to harness the skills and talents of those parents to advance the school’s goals and provide resources for its children, teachers, and staff. This committee has helped design and build the school’s ps32.org website, create the Library Mac Lab, and implement the school’s ps32.org Google Apps initiative, and will continue to look for more opportunities to integrate technology into the fabric of P.S. 32.

Wellness Committee

The P.S. 32 Wellness Committee is committed to providing a school environment that promotes students’ wellness through increased access to healthy food and increased awareness of healthy lifestyle choices for students, families, and school staff. The Wellness Committee introduced a very popular salad bar and water cooler in the cafeteria, enabled access to potable water in all the portable classrooms, and holds teacher and parent workshops on nutrition and healthy eating.
