The Bolero Residency is a comprehensive creative dance experience. The workshops are led by teaching artists and developed with the classroom teachers to integrate the math curriculum while using Pascal Rioult’s choreography Bolero as the springboard for their creative work. By applying mathematical concepts and the concept of mechanical versus flowing movement, students create movement sentences and spatial floor patterns that are cooperatively crafted into an original dance piece. This exciting dance is an ideal partner with math and visual art as it asks students to use geometry concepts, problem solving, pattern recognition, and spatial design.
This school year, 2011-2012, our 1st and 2nd Grade students will participate in Rioult. Last school year, 2010-2011, our Kindergarten & 1st Grade students participate in the residency and during the 2009-2010 school year our 4th and 5th Grade students participated.
