UPCOMING AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR VISIT!

Dear Third & Fourth Graders & Parents,

We are excited to bring author-illustrator Shadra Strickland to speak to our Third grade classes, and author-illustrator Christopher Silas Neal to speak to our Fourth grade classes. These visits takes place during school in the library and is for students only.

About the Author-Illustrator, Shadra Strickland

Shadra Strickland is an award-winning illustrator of over a dozen picture books. She studied, design, writing, and illustration at Syracuse University and later went on to complete her M.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Shadra won the Ezra Jack Keats Award and the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent in 2009 for her work in her first picture book, Bird, written by Zetta Elliott.

Shadra travels the country conducting workshops and sharing her work with children, teachers, and librarians. She currently works and teaches illustration at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. She also developed an online picture book class at Craftsy.com.

BEFORE THE VISIT: 

We have purchased copies of the books shown above for each classroom.

TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THE AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR VISIT:

• Consider checking out their books from the school or public library.

• Talk up the visit before the actual date. The more excited the kids are about it, the more they’ll get out of it.
