About the Author-Illustrator

Juana is the award-winning illustrator of La Madre Goose and La Princesa and the Pea. Alma and How She Got Her Name is her author-illustrator debut. She says, “the essence of ALMA, which has autobiographical elements, is ‘we are everyone that came before us, and at the same time, we are uniquely ourselves.’”Juana was born in Lima, Peru, and now lives in Arizona with her husband, three kids and their puppy.

Juana will talk about where she came from, how she got started, and how she works. She will also talk about and read from Alma.

For more information, visit Juana’s website at www.juanamartinezneal.com

Please note, these talks are during school hours and are for the students only but we want to let parents know so they can help their kids get familiar with the author’s books before the visit.

BEFORE THE VISITS:

We have purchased copies of the books shown above for each classroom.

TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THE AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR VISITS:

• Consider checking out their books from the school or public library.

• Talk up the visit before the actual date. The more excited the kids are about it, the more they’ll get out of it.

If you have any questions or suggestions for these author-illustrator visits, please contact Adam at adam.marcus@ps32.org

Thank you for your participation—we’re looking forward to a great visit!
